MISSION STATEMENT
"To provide an efficient, affordable communication network service of the highest industry standards to contractors, utilities, and the general public for the purpose of requesting location of buried utilities prior to excavation activities in the interest of promoting job safety and damage prevention."

North Carolina 811, a non-profit organization funded by its member facilities, takes locate information from anyone engaged in excavation activities.  An excavator may include contractors, utilities, and homeowners.  The information about proposed excavation is transmitted to the member facility owners that provide service in the requested excavation area. We have a variety of member facility owners; including but not limited to, utilities, municipalities, universities, and homeowner’s associations. Member facilities have two full business days, starting at 12:01 a.m. the next business day from when the request is made, to mark the locate area requested for their underground utilities or notify the excavator of a no conflict in that area. This service is free of charge to all excavators.  North Carolina 811 also takes requests from those persons who do not plan to excavate but wish to find out what utilities are in a particular area. These types of requests are referred to as Survey/Design locate requests, and they require a 10 business day notice.
 
The North Carolina 811 provides a toll free number, 1-800-632-4949, that can be reached from anywhere in the continental United States or you may dial 811 within North Carolina.  North Carolina 811 does not mark utility lines; we only provide an easy communication link between excavators and utility owners.

Hours of Operations:
Monday - Friday 7:00am to 7:00pm open for all locate requests (excluding holidays)
Emergency locates run from 7:01pm - 6:59am
Saturday & Sunday  - Emergency locate requests only and call outs are done all day.
Note: North Carolina 811 is a 24 hours a day, 7 day a week operation. 
Someone is always available to take an emergency locate request.

Member Services Department
The Member Services Department handles the data for each member, as well as updating the mapping utilized by Ticket Entry, Remote Ticket Entry, and WebTMS.  The Database consists of Place, Street, Grids/Gridlets, and Polygons. Members are requested to update their member information by utilizing one of the forms on the electronic forms page or via written request to Lesley Brouillard

Membership

Remote Ticket Entry
Call in a lot of location requests?  Have a computer with access to the internet?  We offer free training  for those that would like to enter their location requests directly from their computer to the Centers computer. NC811 Liaisons

Video Tape Library
North Carolina 811 now offers to its members and users a library of DVD's that promote Dig Safely and Damage Prevention.  If you are interested in borrowing one of the DVDs, please fill out and submit the Video Request Form.

The North Carolina 811 has developed a step by step guide to organizing Utility Coordinating Committees by fostering Cooperation, Coordination and Communication among utility owners, excavators, contractors, municipalities and government agencies focusing on Dig Safely and Damage Prevention.
